Roller Blade in Marin
6-10 Mile Skate at 6:00 pm or 6:30 pm
Every Wednesday April - October during Daylight Savings
What is this all about?
The Inline Skaters of Marin is an informal group that meets every Wednesday from April until October for a leisurely approximately 10 mile skate through some of the nicest trails in Larkspur, Corte Madera, and surrounding areas. The route is typically on city streets, sidewalks, and paved pathways with beautiful views of Mt. Tam, the bay, and local pathways. After the skate, the group gathers for a drink or bite to eat at a local restaurant, usually Marin Brewing Company or The Cantina.
I'm a novice. Should I be concerned about my abilities?
As stated above, this is a leisurely skate. You are free to skate ahead if your skills exceed that of the group, but we are a mostly social group. In the past we have split in two groups with the more experienced skaters taking an aggressive route, while the more liesurely skaters take a more relaxed route. That said, all skating abilities are welcome to join, but if you have never skated before we would strongly encourage you to take some certified lessons. The people at offer great lessons in Golden Gate Park! If you question your abilities, contact Steve and we can help you gauge if you are ready or not.
What is the route like?
Our standard route (here's a crude map) takes us along Corte Madera Creek, and involves one challenging hill. If you are unsure of your abilities on the hill, let the group know and we will all help you take it slow. Otherwise, most of the trails are in very good condition, some brand-new this year, with minimal technique required.
What do I need to bring?
The basics in safety equipment should include a helmet, knee pads, elbow pads, and wrist guards. Optional equipment includes water bottles, backpacks, cameras, phone, or anything you'd like to bring. Most of the skaters have upgraded to hop-ups with ABEC 5 or ABEC 7 bearings. The higher the number, the less resistance in your wheels, and the easier your skate will be.
Don't forget your skates!
What are the people like?
Come by and find out! We usually number between 8 and 16 and come from all different walks of life and experiences (and sometimes countries).
I still have questions. Who should I contact?
E-mail Steve or Yvonne. They'll give you the straight scoop.
